On Thursday, KS2 enjoyed a Lacrosse workshop, where the children were able to develop their throwing, catching, dribbling and competing skills in relation to Lacrosse.
On Thursday, our Y6 boys football team played in a 7-a-side tournament run by Mount Grace school. We had three group games, drawing the first two 0-0 v Cranbourne and Wroxham, before winning the final game 3-0 v Oakmere with goals from Daniel (2) and Harvey. This meant that we finished 2nd in the group, and had a 3rd place playoff match with Cuffley. This was a very tight game, and we were unfortunate to lose 1-0. The boys all played very well and in the right spirit.
On Wednesday, the children from Reception and KS1 took part in a Archery workshop with a coach from Premier Sports. They all got to have a go at firing soft arrows at the target, which was good practise for a house competition later in the year.
On Monday, Y4 took part in a golf workshop run by the team from G.O.L.F.A (Game Of Life For All) who are based at Brocket Hall. We have teamed up with them to offer some golfing opportunities to various year groups going forward. The took part in some putting and chipping games, and had the chance to ask some questions to pro-golfer Simon Wakefield.
Our Y5 team had their fixture night at Little Heath, playing the hosts and Pope Paul, which were both very one-side affairs. Brookmans Park ran out 6-0 winners against Little Heath and 5-0 winners against Pope Paul. Well done to the whole squad.
On Thursday 20th March, a group of Y3/4 girls went to Ridgeway Academy to take part in a football event, run by Ridgeway Sports Leaders and Welwyn Garden City Youth FC. The weather was glorious and the girls had a great time enhancing their skills across numerous skills stations, followed by 3 mini matches at the end. Every singe one of the girls threw themselves into the afternoon and represented the school brilliantly. Well done to you all.
On Wednesday, we took a team of Y6 to Monks Walk for a Tag Rugby tournament, where the team did exceptionally well. We qualified 2nd out of our group, winning 2 matches and losing one against St John's Digswell. In the semi-final we faced our arch-rivals, Welwyn St Mary's and won 2-1, with WSM scoring their only try with the last play of the game. The final was a rematch against St John's Digswell, which was a very tight affair. It was 1 try each going into the last play, however the opposition managed to into the corner for a try, to win 2-1. All of our players performed brilliantly, well done to all.
Last Friday, we had coaches from Potters Bar Crusaders FC in school to run a mass football session for the girls. This was to celebrate International Women's Day, and was part of an FA initiative to hold the biggest ever football session for girls. The sun was shining, and all the girls had a wonderful time. A huge thank you to Adam Bourn, and all the coaches from Potters Bar Crusaders.
On Thursday, our Y6 boys football team travelled to Little Heath to play in the latest round of our Potters Bar League fixtures. We had matches against Little Heath and Pope Paul, both of which were incredibly tight affairs. The match against Little Heath was a thrilling 0-0 draw, and the next match against Pope Paul finished 1-1, with a goal from Andrew K. All the boys worked really hard and gave their all. Well done to all.
On the Friday before half term, our girls team played in a District football tournament at Ridgeway Academy. The girls were amazing, showing remarkable improvement from their last tournament in all areas of their play. They played 4 group games, finishing with a record of W2 L1 D1. This meant that they qualified for the Welwyn/Hatfield Shield knockout stage. The semi-final was very tense, finishing 0-0 and needing a penalty shootout which we won! In the final, the girls played magnificently, winning 1-0 to claim the trophy.
Well doe to the whole squad.
On Wednesday, we held our first ever House Indoor Curling competition (no ice or brushes required!) Every year group, from Reception to Year 6, took part and were able to showcase skills that we have been practising during our indoor PE sessions. It was a lot of fun, and we saw some very competitive curling. The results will be announced in assembly on Friday. Well done to all the children for taking part.
A Y5/6 Archery team travelled to Ridgeway Academy to take part in a district event. The team was chosen from the the best shooters at an archery workshop we had last term. The team performed very well. Daniel finished 1st overall, and Ella finished 3rd. All had a great time and represented the school fantastically.
Our Y5 football team travelled to Ladbrooke for round 2 of the Potters Bar League to play against the hosts and St Giles. The team put in an incredible display to beat St Giles 6-0, and Ladbrooke 8-0, drawing praise from the opposition coaches for their general play and sporting behaviour. Well done to the whole team.
Netball
Last Monday, we took a mixed netball team to Cunningham Hill School in St Albans for a friendly netball match. This was a great opportunity for those members of the club who had not had a chance to represent the school yet. It was a closely contested match, which ended honours even in a 6-6 draw. As well as outstanding team play, our attacking passing was particularly impressive. Well done the whole team, and a special mention to Emily C, who was named player of the match by the Cunningham Hill team
Last Thursday, our Y5 football team played a friendly match against Cranborne school. With more league matches to come in the new year, this was good preparation. The team did not disappoint, winning 8-0. It was a top performance from the whole team, who worked hard and were confident across the whole pitch and in all areas. They also demonstrated great sporting behaviour towards the opposition. Well done to you all.
Our Y4 boys football team played a match against St Giles school. We are lucky enough to have a number of keen footballers in Y4, so it was great for them to have an opportunity to have a match together. In this match, we ran out 6-4 winners. It was a great performance from all of the boys, who worked so hard as a team. They moved the ball nicely and were supportive to each other the whole game. Well done to you all.
On Thursday afternoon, a group of Y6 children went to Monks Walk School to take part in a Tag Rugby event, run by our Sports Partnership. This was a good preparation event for the District Tag Rugby competition, which takes part in the new year. The boys team won all of their matches, and were only pipped to first place by Creswick on try difference. The girls had a more challenging afternoon, but never gave up and showed great resilience and tenacity. In fact, Amelia D was recognised by the organisers for these very things. Well done to all who played, and we look forward to the District event.
House Cross Country
We had our House Cross Country race this week. All the children, from Nursery to Year 6, ran laps of the school field and every child that finished earned points for their house. The results were:
1st - Water (2058 points)
2nd - Air (1896 points)
3rd - Fire (1878 points)
4th - Earth (1746 points)
Well done to all the children, who showed great resilience to keep running!
Mid-Herts. Cross Country
On Tuesday, we took a team of Y5/6 to Queenswood School to take part in the Mid-Herts Cross Country race. As defending champions, and with another talented squad, we went with high expectations. The team did not disappoint. Amelia D ran a stunning race to finish 1st for the girls, and Jack B finished 5th out of a very strong group of boys. In fact, our boys team did amazingly well and finished 1st. Overall, after the boys and girls results were combined, the team came in 2nd place; an agonising 1 point behind Cuffley, who won the event. Well done to the whole team.
Y6 Multi-Sports
Last Thursday, Year 6 went to Monks Walk to take part in a multi-sport event, where they had a go at either table tennis, Boccia, curling or archery. This was a lot of fun, and many children got to have a go at a sport that they had not tried before.
Y5 Football
Last Thursday, Y5 opened their Potters Bar League campaign with two home matches against Cuffley and Wroxham. We started strongly against Wroxham, racing into a 2-0 lead by half time. The second half was much tighter, but we manged to score one more goal to run out comfortable 3-0 winners. We then had a quick turnaround, and played against a very strong Cuffley team. Despite a battling display, we ended up on the wrong end of a 5-0 score line. There were lots of positives in both matches, with plenty to improve on also. Well done to all who played.
Y4 Football
A group of Y4 boys and girls went to Monks Walk to play in a football festival. The girls played in the morning and played four games against other schools. They did brilliantly; winning three of their games and narrowly losing the other. All the goals were scored by Lottie, but all the girls put in great performances. This was particularly impressive as many of the group had never played competitive football before.
In the afternoon, it was the boys turn. We had a very strong group, and the standard of football from all the schools was incredibly high. From four games, we finished with a record of two wins, a draw and a loss. All the players represented the school perfectly. A special mention went to Elliot and Jude for showing great skill and positive sporting behaviour.
Well done to you all.
Y5 District Cross Country
Last Thursday, four of our Y5 runners competed in the District Cross Country Finals at Stanborough Lakes. In very muddy conditions, our team performed superbly! In the girls race, Florence finished 3rd and Bethany was close behind her in 4th. In the boys race, Max finished a brilliant 2nd, and Leo completed the race in 5th place. To have all of our runners come in the top 5 was outstanding. A huge congratulations goes to all of them.
Girls Football
Our girls team played their first league fixtures last week against Cuffley and Wroxham. We fielded a very inexperienced side, with only a handful of our team having played competitive football before. With this in mind, all the girls played their hearts out and did not give up, despite coming up against two teams who had clearly played much more football. Despite two losses, the girls gained invaluable experience for matches to come. Well done to all of the team.
Y6 Football
Our league campaign started with two home games against Wroxham and Cuffley. The team showed great improvements from our warm up fixtures the previous week. In the first match against Cuffley, we raced into a 2-0 lead in the first half after a dominant display. The second half was much tighter, however we ran out deserved 3-2 winners. The second match against Wroxham was a hard fought match, with both teams showed tiredness towards the end. We eventually won 2-0. This was a great start, well done to the whole team.
Y6 Football
On Tuesday evening, some members of our Y6 football squad took part in a friendly football fixtures night at Monks Walk. This was a good warm up for our league campaign, which starts next week. Our first game was against a very good team from Welwyn St Marys and, after going down 2-0 very early on, the team battled hard and didn’t give up. The final score was 3-1, with our goal coming from a great free-kick shot from Jack. Our second game was a closely fought game against St John’s Digswell, which ended up 2-2, with two goals from Charlie.
There were a lot of positives to take out of the games, but also plenty to work on. Well done to all who played.
Y5 Cross Country
Last week, Y5 all went to Monks Walk for the annual cross country race and fun run. The children had the choice of doing the race, which was a qualifier for the District Cross Country race in October, a fun run or both! Both our teams did fantastically well, which meant we finished 2nd overall. A special mention to our four qualifiers for the District race, Florence, Bethany, Leo and Max, but a huge well done to everyone who ran.
