Welcome to the Brookmans Park Music Blog!
Brookmans Park Primary School presents our virtual choir singing 'Power In Me'! Thank you so much to everyone who took part in this project and to governor Mr Bentall for his fantastic skills in making the video look so professional. I am once again a very proud teacher! Miss Kropman x
Year 5 and 6 Choir performing at The Royal Albert Hall - Hertfordshire Schools' Gala, Sunday 8th March
Eighteen of our most talented singers from UKS2 performed to a sell-out crowd at London's iconic Royal Albert Hall on Sunday evening as part of the bi-annual Hertfordshire Schools' Gala. We were exceptionally fortunate to have been chosen to sing at this event, which also featured the County Youth Choir, Hertfordshire Schools' Symphony Orchestra and the most gifted secondary musicians from across the county, and were even selected to be placed at the front of the stage! We particularly enjoyed singing the pop classics 'Reach', 'Sky Full of Stars' and 'Happy', yet were also a fundamental part of the world premiere of 'I Am Alban', a musical cantata by Anne Dudley written specifically for the event. This told the story of Saint Alban, which, in Hertfordshire's Year of Culture, taught the importance of showing kindness to strangers. Our choir sang with superb musicianship and were excellent ambassadors for the school throughout the day. Miss Kropman was exceptionally proud of all of them and very much enjoyed singing with them on stage! We would also like to thank Mrs Kropman (Miss Kropman's mum) who stepped in to help with various admin tasks (and toilet runs!) as Mrs Davies was unwell on the day.
Choir singing at The O2 - Young Voices, Monday 3rd February
Brookmans Park choir dazzled a full arena of 20,000 on Monday night as they sang as part of the Young Voices massed school choir. Our talented singers performed brilliantly across a wide range of musical genres and particularly enjoyed the medlies and pop classics. Their behaviour, focus and singing were all exceptional and Miss Kropman could not have been prouder of them. Thank you also to Mrs Luck, Mrs Loftus and Mrs Kropman, who helped throughout the day.
Brass Assembly - Wednesday 29th January
We were treated to an inspiring assembly this morning, which was led by brass teacher Mrs Lang and her pupils, Reuben and Hannah. Mrs Lang teaches these talented siblings every Wednesday morning and is keen to teach more pupils from our school. During the assembly, Reuben played 'A Whole New World' on his cornet and Hannah played 'Twinkle, Twinkle' on the French Horn, which she has only been learning for eleven weeks! Both of them played brilliantly and we can clearly see why Reuben received a merit for his Grade 5 last term! Mrs Lang introduced us to a range of brass instruments throughout the assembly and invited volunteers from the audience to come and try them out. Thank you to Elizabeth (who plays the Baritone outside of school) who helped with this and a big well done to Violet, Giacomo, Lennon, Jack and Sienna for being such talented volunteers! A ParentMail has gone out today with a form to return for anyone who is interested in learning a brass instrument after half term. Please return this to Miss Kropman ASAP.
Key Stage 2 Carol Service at URC Brookmans Park - Tuesday 17th December
Key Stage 2 experienced a moving carol service at the village church this morning, with Vicar Richard leading an engaging sermon about the meaning of Christmas, which was interspersed with a series of carols and excellent readings from Year 6 children. There was also some lovely group singing from Miss Kropman's choir and the Year 6s. Well done, in particular, to Danielle, Ilana, Rebecca and Tilly for beautiful solo singing.
Drums Assembly - Friday 13th December
Congratulations to the six percussionists who performed for us in this afternoon's drum assembly. We loved hearing classics such as 'We Will Rock You', 'My Name Is' and 'Sitting on the dock of the bay' and were very impressed with the accurate timing and confidence on display. Thank you to Mr Chivers for teaching them so well!
Guitar Assembly - Tuesday 10th December
Well done to the nine exceptional guitarists who played for us in an afternoon assembly today. We heard a lovely range of popular and classical acoustic guitar pieces which were all performed beautifully and to a very high standard. Thank you to Mr Nicola for his brilliant teaching on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Piano Assembly - Monday 9th December
Congratulations to the eleven brilliant pianists who performed for the school and family members in today's assembly. They had all prepared well and played with super confidence and talent. It was lovely to hear a range of Christmas carols, classical examination pieces and jazz. Thank you to Mrs Kropman (Miss Kropman's mum!) for teaching them so well each Monday.
Orchestra and cello assembly - Thursday 5th December
A large audience of parents, family and friends witnessed a brilliant orchestra and cello assembly this morning. The orchestra played extracts from Snow Storm and a fantastic Christmas carol medley entitled Unto Ye. Mrs Lines' cello pupils then treated us to Jingle Bells and We Wish You A Merry Christmas, which were both performed to a very high standard. Miss Kropman would love to invite any KS2 children who have been playing their instrument for a year or more to join the orchestra in January, which she runs with Mrs Lines on a Thursday morning from 8 - 8.45am. We look forward to preparing for POTSMA at the Wyllyotts in March!
Violin Assembly - Wednesday 4th December
Well done to the eight talented violinists who played for us in today's assembly. They all demonstrated excellent posture, technique and timing and should be very proud of such super performances! Thank you to Miss Gardner for teaching them so well. Miss Kropman is now working on getting more of them to join the school orchestra!
Musical tributes in our Remembrance Day Assembly - Monday 11th November
Miss Pomeroy's Year 5 morning group led a moving assembly today as we came together as a school to commemorate Remembrance Day. Huge congratulations should go to our very talented Year 6 cornet player, Reuben, who performed an excellent Last Post with brass teacher, Mrs Laing. We ended the assembly with the beautiful song, 'We Will Remember Them'.
Year 6 Sing Out Event - Monday 14th October
Year 6 had a great time today attending a singing festival at Lochinver House in Potters Bar, along with students from Little Heath, Lochinver, Pope Paul and Stormont. We spent the morning sessions discussing the importance of singing to improve our health, well-being and happiness and also learnt some fun warm-up songs and collaborative pieces. In the afternoon, each school performed one song to each other, before an audience made up of family and friends had the opportunity to hear both these and our joint pieces in an incredible concert. We performed 'Electricity' from Billy Elliot absolutely brilliantly and Miss Kropman was in awe as she conducted such a talented group of singers. We hope you enjoy watching the video of our performance! Well done, Year 6 - Miss Kropman, Miss Melchionno, Mrs Dreblow and all of your families were exceptionally proud of you today.
