Wales Year 6 Residential

Year 6 set off from the village at 5.40am this morning full of excitement and merriment! Fast forward to seven and a half hours later, and fifty-one weary souls departed the coach, overjoyed to have finally reached Stackpole! After a brief tour of the centre, fire drill and food break, we boarded minibuses for the short drive down to Freshwater West - a stunning beach where we were to bodyboard! We hope you enjoy looking at the photographs of what a super time we had. After dinner this evening, we walked to Broadhaven beach for some games in the sand. As I type this at 11.20pm, all is quiet as we look forward to even more fun tomorrow! Mrs Carson x

We have had a fabulous second day here in Stackpole! After a peaceful night, we woke up to a drizzly sky, but this didn’t dampen our moods for a second as we went to breakfast! Multiple bowls of cereal, sausages (some veggie), beans and round of toast later, we were ready for our first activities. Topaz set off to Freshwater West again for a surfing lesson, whilst Turquoise departed on a lengthy walk to Bushcraft. Whilst Topaz learnt how to catch a wave, Turquoise engaged in building shelters and cooking their own bread! After meeting back at the centre for lunch, it was Topaz’s turn to do Bushcraft. Turquoise, meanwhile, boarded the minibuses to Stackpole Quarry for stand-up paddleboarding! This was, quite honestly, AWESOME, and I hope the pictures and videos below do it justice.
Back at the centre this evening, we have had a chicken nugget and salad dinner, a trip to the beach at Broadhaven and even a quick pre-bedtime quiz in order to earn biscuits! Thank you to all of Year 6, Mrs Davies, Mr Cooper, Mr Fennell and Mr Rahman for a wonderful Welsh day! Mrs Carson x

It has been another fantastic day here in Wales, with both classes now thoroughly exhausted and enjoying half an hour of free time before dinner as I type! This morning, Topaz ventured on a long walk to Stackpole Quay, where they were then rewarded with a trip to the National Trust cafe. After ice creams and cookies, we did some rockpooling. I was delighted to watch seals bobbing their heads up from the sea as Topaz explored amongst the rocks! Some of their top rockpooling finds included shrimps, prawns, anemones and crabs! Turquoise, meanwhile, were enjoying a surfing lesson in near-perfect sea conditions at Freshwater West.
We all met back at the centre for lunch before Topaz then set off for coast steering at Barafundle. Due to the nature of this activity, Mr Fennell and Mr Cooper were not able to take their phones over the rocks and thus no action photographs were taken, much to my disappointment! I also couldn’t partake, for obvious reasons. Turquoise, Mrs Davies and Mr Rahman enjoyed their rockpooling session and were proud of their net hauls (which were all returned to the sea immediately afterwards).
We are now about to enjoy dinner before the grand Welsh talent show of 2025. Pictures and videos to follow later on! Mrs Carson x

For our last full day in Wales, we have been blessed with glorious weather and super activities to match! This morning, it was Topaz’s turn to try stand up paddleboarding in Bosherton Quarry. I was exceptionally impressed with how good they were at this and really enjoyed seeing them having so much fun together. Turquoise went on a coastal walk, meanwhile, covering over 10,000 steps of beautiful terrain to see wildlife and stunning scenic views across the ocean. This ended at the beach at Barafundle, where they took part in a sandcastle-making competition before visiting the cafe to buy an ice-cream.
We all met up for lunch at the centre before Topaz then went on the coastal walk whilst Turquoise did coast steering. This evening, we have packed our bags for tomorrow’s departure and had a great disco in the centre’s theatre. Everyone is now in bed, sad to leave tomorrow but armed with a hatful of memories which will last a lifetime. We are looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow. Mrs Carson x

Wales Day 5 - Friday 27th June

This blog update comes direct to you from the M4 as we are just about to cross the border back into England! This morning, we finished our packing and had our last breakfast before boarding the coach. We have had our lunch at Magor services and are now back on the road, with an eta at The Brookmans of between 4 - 4.30pm. Thank you once again to all of Year 6 and the staff for what has been a superb week!
