Welcome to the Sports and Music Blog for 2025 - 26 ![]()
Just before half term, 8 children from Y3 went to Homerswood school to take part in a New-Age Curling event. This is essentially curling without the ice and brushes! The team played matches against other schools and had an amazing time, representing the school brilliantly. Well done to Harry, Georgie, Joseph, Minnie, Franklin, Emmie, Evie and George.
A special mention goes to Harry and Minnie, who were chosen by the team as Star Performers.
This afternoon, twenty-six talented Year 6 athletes travelled to Stanborough School in Welwyn Garden City for an indoor athletics competition. Despite there being six other schools present, we were only in direct competition with schools from our Sports Partnership, with a further seven schools taking to the hall next week. We were therefore unable to determine the outcome of today in terms of whether we have been successful in making the district finals. However, Mrs Carson can report on excellent sporting behaviour and superb effort in all field and track events! I was especially impressed with the boys' relay team (and Finn and Will, in particular, whose sprinting blew the other competitors away - quite literally!), Raya's brilliant speed bounce and Angelo's insane javelin throws. Well done to all of the team. Both myself and Mr Nicholson were very proud of you today!
Athletics Team:
Girls - Bella, Bethany, Darcy, Eleni, Ellie, Elsie, Emily, Estelle, Florence, Juliet B, Juliette C, Raya, Ruby, Seraphine

On Wednesday 4th February, Mrs Carson's KS2 choir travelled to the iconic Wembley Arena to perform as part of the world's largest youth choir in the Young Voices concert. After a jam-packed afternoon of rehearsing, our talented thirty-three singers dazzled the audience of family members with a range of incredible songs. From a sea-shanty medley to our school classic 'Power In Me', our choir sang with excellent enthusiasm and positively spread joy throughout the arena. This was an experience that will, undoubtedly, stay with them for life and may well inspire some of them to be a future headliner at Wembley themselves! Mrs Carson was so proud of each and every choir member for their excellent singing and for representing Brookmans Park so well with their impeccable behaviour throughout the day. We would like to say a huge thank you to Mrs Ingram and Ms Pzadzior for coming with us and helping us so well.

This morning, six of our most talented long distance runners took to the course at St Margaret’s School in Bushey to run a 1.6km race against Hertfordshire’s finest. With approximately 170 athletes in each race, the track consisted of steep inclines, tight turns and a great deal of mud! Cheering them on from the sidelines, this reporter can confirm that all six of our children finished in the top 30 in each of their races, which is a huge achievement! The top 10 runners in each race were rewarded with being offered a place on the Hertfordshire Schools’ Team to compete in the national finals in March. Huge congratulations to Jayce, who will be representing Hertfordshire in the Year 5 boys as a result of his excellent time and placing this morning! Well done to all of the team for being superb ambassadors for Brookmans Park today. Mrs Carson (and Mr Carson!) loved watching you run with such determination and resilience. I couldn’t be prouder of all of you.
Year 5 - Benny, Eliza and Jayce
Year 6 - Bethany, Florence and Max
The team showed brilliant performances on the court, displaying great teamwork, confidence and improving netball skills. It was also a special first outing for some of our players, who loved representing their school. Well done to the whole squad.
This morning saw the last of our end-of-term music assemblies, as some of Mr Nicola's guitar pupils entertained the school and watching family members. Six guitarists performed classical acoustic pieces with beautiful tone, sensitivity and impressive use of dynamics. They all played with good confidence and should be very proud of themselves. Thank you to Mr Nicola for teaching them so well.
Guitarists who performed today: Arthur, Jessica, Liam, Max, Ruby, Sebastian
Years 1-6 (and their teachers!) had a fabulous end to the week this afternoon with a drums assembly performed by pupils of Mr Liverpool. Ten drummers treated us to a range of exam pieces, favourite songs and crowd-pleasers by artists such as Ed Sheeran, Eminem and Olivia Rodrigo! All of them played with excellent confidence and timing and brought a smile to everyone's faces. Thank you to Mr Liverpool for putting together such a great assembly. Mrs Carson has been exceptionally proud of all of our talented musicians this week and is looking forward to our final music assembly of the term next week.
Drummers who performed today: Christian, Dylan, Espen, Estelle, Franklin, Harry, Leo, Mary, Max, Ryan

Also playing were: Surfin' Dolphins with 'Stargazing'; Bye Bye Bye with 'Bye, Bye, Bye', Fortnite Battle Pass playing 'Steve's Lava Chicken' and McDonald's with 'Dance Monkey'. The audience, once again, was very impressed with the quality and confidence of the bands!

This afternoon saw three of our iRock bands perform for their adults, Mrs Davies and Mrs Carson. First up were Chicken Jockey, who entertained us with an awesome mash-up of 'Eye of the Tiger' vs 'Roar'. Second to take to the stage were Team KFC, who shone in their of 'Azizam', followed by FBI Open Up! with their rendition of 'Titanium'. Each of the bands played with great showmanship and confidence, and left the audience cheering! Well done to all of them; Mrs Davies and Mrs Carson greatly enjoyed watching you today.

This morning, Years 1 - 6 were treated to a violin assembly with nine of Mrs Hogarth's violin pupils. Despite two only just having started lessons this term(!), all of them played magnificently today. We heard a range of pieces that were all performed with confidence and accurate tuning, and particularly enjoyed the classics of Pachelbel's 'Canon' and the Christmas hymns. For the third time in as many days this week, Mrs Carson was so impressed with everyone who played for us. Thank you to Mrs Hogarth for teaching her pupils to such a high standard.
Violinists who performed today: Bethany, Betsy, Clara, Elizabeth, Evan, Georgie, Henry, Inara, Rose
This afternoon, we gathered in the hall to listen to twelve exceptionally brave and confident pianists perform. Ranging in experience from having learnt for just one term to over three years, each of them played brilliantly and were a joy to listen to. Whilst some performed Christmas classics, others treated us to Fur Elise, Harry Potter and graded exam pieces.
Mrs Carson is, once again, very proud of everyone who played for the school and their adults today. Thank you to Mrs Kropman for teaching her pupils so well.
Pianists who performed today: Ayla, Chikamji, Constantine, Hugo, Isabella, Lara, Lena, Liam, Meadow, Mila-Rae, Myra, Rose
This morning, the whole school enjoyed the first of our end-of-term music assemblies as the orchestra took to the stage, followed by individual flute and cello performances. Mrs Carson and Ms Carter's orchestra meet before school on Tuesday mornings, and have been working exceptionally hard this term to perfect 'The Bare Necessities' and 'Jingle Bell Rock'. They performed both of these with great confidence and musicality this morning, and had plenty of the live audience singing along on their way out of the hall at the end of the assembly!
Five of Ms Carter's flute pupils then played individual pieces. Well done to Ariana, Florence, Simmi, Elsie and Ella for fantastic performances! To end the show, sisters Myra and Ayla played a beautiful duet of 'Silent Night' on their cellos, before Ayla wowed us all with her super rendition of 'Walking in the Air'.
Mrs Carson is very proud of everyone who played for the school and their adults today, and is looking forward to hearing more performances over the next few weeks! Thank you to Ms Carter and Mrs Lines for teaching their pupils so well. If anyone has been inspired to learn an instrument in school, please speak to Mrs Carson. Orchestra will also welcome any new members who have been learning their instrument for a minimum of two terms.
