Little Gems (Nursery)

Week 7

This week in Little Gems we joined in with the whole school assembly for the

Harvest Festival.

All the nursery children were so well behaved and listened attentively.

We will definetly be invited again to join in with the school assembly after half term.

We would like to say a big Thank you to Catherine’s mum who came in and read some Halloween stories to our Little Gems, she even taught the children a new Halloween song and we have been practicing it since.

We would also like to say a big congratulations to Lilly, her Mum, Dad and Grandparents for the arrival of Lilly’s baby sister.

We would also like to welcome Rayan and his family including his new little baby brother to Brookmans Park and Brookmans Park School.

This week we did  colour mixing, we mixed red and yellow to make orange for our Halloween pumpkins. The children then decorated the pumpkins using different shapes.

Little Gems enjoyed their colour walk around the school. We had so much fun looking out for different colours in the environment.

We celebrated Diwali

All the children made some colourful and glittery pictures, coloured in some Henna pictures and some were even brave to taste some poppadum’s and mango chutney.

We also enjoyed our first Nursery Party…

We decorated pumpkin biscuits as well as made our own sandwich for our party.

We enjoyed dancing to the music and playing games.

Didn’t all the children gorgeous…..

We have set a Home Learning Task for over the Half term Break.

We have been exploring colour in our environment and have gone on a colour walk  around the school. Over the holiday's could you please either take pictures of different   things when out and about or draw and colour in your pictures.

For example a red post box, green grass, black car, yellow ball ans so on ….

The idea is that the children are observational of their environment and they practice   recognising colour around us. You could also find things In the home.

Please include any siblings in the activity and make it a fun exercise for all the

family.

What a great end to a fun filled and busy first half term.

All our Little Gems have settled in so well and we are already looking forward to having them back after the half term.

Thank you once again for all your support

The Nursery Team

Please enjoy your Break!

Week 5

This week in Little Gems we have had some great visitors.

We have had the Potters Bar firefighters come in.

We had such a great time using the water hose and we all had a go at pretending to put out fires.

Before the firefighters arrived we all had a go at putting our puddle suits on and our wellies.

We were then able to jump in the muddy puddles we made with the water from the fire truck.

Mrs Ingram got dressed up in a Firefighter’s outfit! This was very funny. She called herself Fireman Rob

We also had a visit from the Police. We had two female officers and one male officer visit us. We were all able to have a go wearing their police jacket as well as wearing a hat. We discussed how to keep safe on the roads when crossing, or in our cars. We even called on the police radio and spoke to another police officer looking after the office in case they needed back up help.

We then all had a go at sitting in the police car and some were even brave enough to sound the siren.

This week we took part in a P.E lesson in the hall. We had so much fun practicing to slither, hop, jump, and shuffle

and much much more.

We have also finished our family trees and family books so please come in and have a look.

The children have continued to explore their classroom environment indoors and outdoors.

Could we please ask all parents to bring in any recyclable materials that we could use for our junk modelling area. The children have all been busy making things and our stock is low.

We are all very excited for our Trip to the Village next

Thursday the 12th of October

Sorry for any confusion with the dates.

Thank you to the parents that have volunteered to come so far, don’t forget the more the merrier so please let us know if you can come.

Thank you.

Week 3

Another great week in Little Gems Nursery.

The children  all had fun on our Autumn walk. They walked around the school grounds collecting Autumn objects they could find. We mostly found leaves...

We hope you were able to collect autumn objects over the weekend for our

Autumn Display .

We have had a lot of fun painting our portraits with Mrs Magdich.

Please come and see them in our classroom.

We have also enjoyed making our portraits using play dough and at the end

of the week we made our portraits using icing on biscuits.

We have also started to make our family trees as well as our family books. the children are enjoying talking about all their family members including their pets.

We have sadly had to remove our much loved sand tray.

Due to Health and Safety it was deemed unsafe as the sand was getting too wet therefore unsafe to use. We will have standard sand trays available as a replacement.

The children enjoyed helping wash the outside area when the tray was removed.

Please enjoy below some pictures of our fun filled week.

Well done to everyone who took part in Race for Life.

We had a total of 10 Nursery children running with their parents and or teacher.

Last week we had a great time joining in with Sports Week.

We visited year 5/6 and enjoyed watching them perform their dance routine.

We then all had a go at learning some of the moves and performing with them.

We had so much fun playing group  games.

We  all took turns and followed the rules of the games.

We joined in to the whole school assembly and enjoyed watching the Olympic Athletes.

They were very interesting and we all got to have a look at their Gold Medals.

We have been practising for our concert.

The children have all been great at remebering the words and actions.

Pictures to follow!!!!

Brookmans Park School  has celebrated Cultural Arts Week

Little Gems Celebrated with the rest of the school and had lots of exciting and interesting things to do.

Nursery and Reception classes had a swap over day on Wednesday.

During Arts Cultural Week

Little Gems went into the Reception class, where they completed some sports day activities. These included hopping races, balancing quoits on their heads and skipping. The children all enjoyed racing and taking turns.

We also watched a video of the Rainbow fish story.

They then discussed the different emotions that the Rainbow fish may have been feeling during different parts of the story. They then had a go at making up a dance in their groups which showed how the fish was feeling.

Both Reception classes spent 45 minutes in the Nursery Classroom they learnt a senses song all about the seaside. They all had a go at making up their own poems and writing them out. All together we all sang the rhyming soup game and thought of lots of words that rhyme with seaside words.

We have had another fun week in Little Gems Nursery.

We have been sharing our experiences and stories about our sea-side trips.

All the children have enjoyed making sand castles and fishing for shells.

We enjoyed our ice lollies we made during our 'hot and cold' week.

What fun we had with our bubble machine,

we even shared it with Year 1 as a well done for their amazing performances in their class assembly, which we were invited to watch.

After watching their performance we went back to our class and we re enacted the

'Lighthouse Keepers' story just like we had seen them do.

We also invited Year 1 into our classroom as well

as being invited into theirs.

Together we sang and performed sea-side songs.

Thank you to Violet's Mummy for coming in and helping us serve and share ice cream experiences.

She also had fun joining in with our 'Sticky Kids' dancing and singing games.

During the week we had another trip to our school pond and we discussed the changes that occur over the year to the pond and the surroundings.

Whilst on the subject of Reception, as of next Wednesday 10th May we will begin

the new system of parents saying goodbye to the their children at the nursery gate.

We will be discussing this with the children on Monday and Tuesday and it would also be beneficial if you also explain this transition to them.

This is in preparation for Reception as the Summer term is coming to an end.

Week 2

It has been another very busy week in Little Gems Nursery

We have all missed Mrs Magdich and we all

wish her a speedy recovery!

Sadly  Mrs Magdich will not be in next week as

she is still recovering from her recent operation.

We would like to say thank you to Mrs. Andreas for

coming in and helping us out this week. Mrs Andreas helped the children choose and make a transport using different shapes.

We would like to continue to  extend our invitation to all mums and encourage you to come along and spend a morning with us in Little Gems.

A big thank you to Mrs.Summers for helping us out every Wednesday through the last term

and her continued support this term.

We have been learning all about different modes of transport this week and the children have all shared many

stories  of their different transport experiences.

The children have been colour mixing their favourite colours

this week. Next week we will continue to explore

our primary and secondary colours.

We have also had a walk around the school looking at different blossom trees. the children all suggested we make our very own

little gems  blossom tree. we picked sticks and real

blossom and then re created a tree in our classroom.

We enjoyed story time in the school woods whilst on our spring blossom walk.

This week we are all proud to say we have walked a

'MILE'

The school have decided that each class would

walk a marathon during the Summer term.

In Little Gems we have decided as we have little feet!

We would walk a mile a week to begin with and then increase this

each week to total 26 miles by the end of the Summer term.

We have already started to practice for our Sports Day

by running races whilst out walking our Mile.

Little Gems have had a go at Speed stacking cups. We have started using 3 and 8 cups and will increase next week.

On Wednesday morning's

(8am til 8.45 with Mrs.Ingram)

puzzle club has started.

Children from Nursery and Reception

enjoyed self choosing and completing puzzles.

Places are still available if you are interested

so please speak to the office.

 as very special Royal treat.

We all  sang the National Anthem all standing tall and proud.

We had a Birthday circle for Queen Elizabeth II.

We looked at the next three Kings to reign in

Britain for many years to come.

Whilst celebrating being 'Proud to be  British'

We discussed the 4 British countries.

We have also been celebrating St.Georges Day.
