Little Gems (Nursery)

Little Gems,

It has been a fantastic end to the year. We have enjoyed a wide range of activities this week including sharing a farewell cake today.

It has been a pleasure to watch you all grow, develop and flourish this year.

You have had a busy year and we hope they have a restful and enjoyable summer.

Thank you for all our lovely gifts and thoughtful cards.

We wish you all the best in your new adventures.

Mrs Emmons, Mrs McInnes and Mrs Magdich

Next week is our final week as Little Gems, we are looking forward to enjoying our last few days together. On Tuesday we are having our graduation in the hall. We will be finished by 9.50 to allow for parking restrictions. There will be the children’s creations available to buy at a cost of £3. We look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible.

Wow! What an extremely busy week the Little Gems have had. We started the week with Megan’s Grandma coming in to share her books with the class, the children listened really well and enjoyed joining in with answering questions about stories. During our choosing time the children had a go at a bike shuttle challenge in our outside area with the children having to transport water from one end of the playground to the other on bikes. We then joined some of the beach games, the children played volleyball with Reception and Target throwing with Emerald class before completing our daily mile run and  finishing with a game of throw and catch with water bombs.

On Wednesday we joined Reception and Key Stage 1 to take part in Sports day. All the children tried their hardest and we are so proud of how they did.

We finished the week with parents joining us to run our daily mile. It was a great to see so many of you joining us.

The children have really impressed us with their ability to follow instructions and their throwing, running and working as a team.

Little Gems Graduation – Tuesday 17th July 2018

The Little Gems have had a very full first week back. We joined in with the rest of the school in cultural week, learning about our country Denmark. The children had a visit from Ida and Elina’s Mummy who shared with them the original story of the ugly duckling, by Hands Christian Anderson, and then showed the children how to cut out a connected paper chain out of one piece of paper and taught the children to sing Tommy Thumb in Danish. Following this, we then looked different versions of the ugly duckling and at the end of the week the children created a story map in groups, retelling the story. Finally, we made yummy Danish Dream cake, which I hope that you have all enjoyed sharing with your children.

As part of the school’s cultural week we enjoyed sharing scrumptious food from different cultures together, thank you to everyone who provided the food. The children were all given the food to try and some of the children were very surprised at the flavours of some of the foods.

Next week we are inviting daddies into stay and play for father’s day. We look forward to meeting some of you throughout the week. Can we also take this opportunity to remind all parents coming into stay with the children, that we follow the same mobile phone policy as the rest of the school and please make sure that phones are turned off whilst you are on site, thank you.

On Thursday Mrs Magdich, who had worked with the children creating their individual piece, took the children into the dinner hall to install their work on to the window. If you walked through the dinner hall on Thursday afternoon, as you left school, I hope you saw Little Gems window.

We’re all looking forward to the last term as Little Gems – we are busy busy busy. The first week back, we will be joining in with the rest of the school celebrating culture week. As a class we will be learning about Denmark, we will also be following this team through the world cup.

Date for Paradise Wildlife Park Trip- Monday 25th June 2018

We have had a very interesting week this week in Little Gems. We started the week writing invitations to the royal wedding, with Megan and Harry helping me spell their names, when we wrote our whole class invitation. The children then wrote their own invitations which are now on display in our classroom. We continued the week learning about weddings and re-enacted the story of Puddles the cat and reverend Freddie Fischer – we also made our own crowns. We finished our royal week decorating biscuits and taking them out to the field to eat with the rest of the school.

On Thursday we had Cricket tots visited to do a session with the children. We went out to the field in groups of 10 to learn how to bat, bowl, throw and catch. The children thoroughly enjoyed the sessions.

Additionally, our last butterflies came out of their cocoons, so we took them outside to release them. When we eventually got them to fly out of the net, one of them decided to take a shine for James and flew straight onto his hand. It then slowly moved up to his jumper where it stayed while the other butterflies flew out.

We opened up our small mud kitchen this week. The children have enjoyed playing with the and have spent long periods baking the most ‘delicious’ mud cakes and bowls of soups.

Finally, we have arranged a date for our last school trip. We will be visiting Paradise Wildlife Park on Monday 25th June, more information will follow shortly.

This week Little Gems have been continuing to look at the world. We have added the clouds to our world. We've been working on our numbers to 10; the children have been recognising, ordering and making them with a range of different resources around the class.

We had a visit from Mrs Ingram on Thursday, who came in to see the children and talk to them about what they have been doing since she has been off. The children were very excited to see her and share all the exciting things they have been doing.

The caterpillars built their cocoons over the bank holiday weekend and we have now moved them into the butterfly net, where we are watching and waiting for them to break out into butterflies. Hopefully, this may happen next week.

We have continued with our mile a day this week and all children are easily completing 2 laps, with most children doing more through their own choice.

This week we have been looking at the world. The children have been keen to play in the Travel Agents and we have been asked several times where we would like to go on holiday and asked to select a hotel. The children have enjoyed talking about their trips and holiday; we have create an earth, which the children have coloured this week with various shades of blue and green.

We have been continuing to monitor our caterpillars and are anticipating their building of cocoons very soon.

The children have completed their mile a day this week with most children managing to run 2 laps of the field. Some of the children have enjoyed running that much, that they have continued to run 3,4, 5 and even 6 laps.

This week we have also enjoyed some mindfulness lessons, with ‘worries’ being a key topic; they have listened and sung the song ‘Don’t Worry, Be Happy’ by Bobby McFerrin. Also, we have completed a trolls yoga activity. The children were really engaged in copying the activities, whilst following the story.

We have had some interesting show and tells this week, they included making huge bubbles, home made slime and a picture of one of the class in a newspaper. We look forward to more interesting show and tells next week.

This week we have been watching our caterpillars grow, they have really increased in size just like the story The Hungry Caterpillar. The children were able to retell me the story and we mind mapped it as we went. The children could recall the different parts of the story including all the different foods he ate on Saturday. The children have also sowed some seeds which we were hoping to use in our cooking this week however, they have not grown enough yet, hopefully we will be able to use them next week. The sunflowers have been flourishing in our garden and I hope that the ones at home are growing too.

The children were given new brushes and spray bottles this week which they have been using to ‘clean’ the outside areas of the class developing their gross and fine motor skills. We have visited the Reception garden making mud cakes, building roads and cleaning their house.

We have arranged for a group called Cricket Tots to come in and do a session with the children on Thursday 17th May. This links to our topic of leisure this term. We are waiting for further details from them about the session in the next week.

Some of the children helped to create a sunflower display, out of a range of different materials.

We have learnt the U sound this week along with practicing the other sounds we have learnt so far. The children have looked at matching different number quantities, and we started to learn Numicon.

During the week we have introduced some mindfulness sessions into our days. We practiced our breathing techniques and tried some Moana yoga. We look forward to trying other yoga stories in the coming weeks.

Enjoy the lovely weekend

What a fun day we had on Thursday celebrating World Book Day.

The children all looked amazing in their outfits, we enjoyed attending the assembly with the rest of the school and looking at what other book characters were chosen.

This week we listened to 'Greek Music' and we all had a go at doing some Greek Dancing. The children enjoyed this dance as it starts off slowly and gets faster and faster as it plays on and the dancing gets faster and faster. We all had such a good time. Some children mentioned that they hear this music at Greek School.

We also all had a go at playing the Xylophone.

We observed how the sound changes when moving along the Xylophone.

Some children noticed when it sounded higher and lower.

We played both a wooden and metal xylophone, the children also observed they made different sounds to each other.

During the week we enjoyed watching the snow fall all around us. We discussed different weather conditions as well as where snow comes from, where it disappears to and so much more about different weather conditions.

This week we were exploring animals and their habitats.

All the children made animal homes using wooden blocks. We have been learning lots of animals facts and been playing sorting games with different types of animals

such as wildlife, farm, sea and lots more.

On Monday we were visited to assess our progress towards

achieving our Gold Kite Mark.

We were awarded 'Silver' and they are very pleased with how much we have achieved towards the Gold award through the changes we have implemented in our

Multicultural and Inclusion Project.

We had a go at playing and listening to the sound the 'Sound Bells' make.

We all had a go at playing them whilst listening to Chinese music.

Some children noticed that each bell made a higher and or lower note.

We have been discussing our growing bodies and how we grow from babies to nursery children and beyond.

We made a height chart using ourselves, we all lined up from the shortest  to the tallest.

This week our topic has been

Technology

We have explored different forms of technology as well at exploring how information can be retrieved from computers. Each of the children have thought of different information/facts they would like to research. We then went on the internet and asked the question. The information then was retrieved and we were able to print this.

We have also enjoyed programming the Bee bots to move in different directions.

All the children also had a go at completing a maths activity on the I Pads.

We also received an email from Megan K who is currently on holiday in Australia. We sent her an email from all of us in Little Gems. We discussed how emails are like letters however they do not get posted and do not require a stamp however are sent via the internet and are received instantly.

We would like to thank you all for sending in your cultural recipes, please continue to do so at your convenience.

A special thank you to Lawrence and his mum for making the recipe.

Thank you also to Catherine's Mum for coming in to read a couple of stories from an old family story book. We would also like to say thank you for bringing in a variety of cook books that reflect your families array of cultures.

This week we have been practicing writing our sound of the week

'a' number '2' and a square

The children are enjoying experiencing the different forms of writing especially using their fingers in the sand tray.

We have also been enjoying achieving the challenges set for us in our Construction area.

Amy, Daniel's sister has visited us in Nursery together with her friend Gabriella who is Marina's sister.  Together they came in to share Amy and Daniel's adventure in India over the Christmas holidays.

Amy explained the meaning of each item she brought in to

Show and Tell to Daniel's friends.

The children all enjoyed listening and looking at Amy's presentation.

Marina and Daniel both helped out as well as other children who enjoyed having a go with the puppets being shown.

We hope you have a great weekend and look forward to seeing you all on Monday morning.

The children have been rehearsing the songs and their lines. We have made sure that every child has a part and a line. They are only 3 and just 4 so nothing to hard to learn. We are just enabling them to all build their confidence in having a go and performing on a stage. We are already so proud of all of them for being so resilient and trying their hardest.
