Last week we had a great time joining in with Sports Week.

We visited year 5/6 and enjoyed watching them perform their dance routine.

We then all had a go at learning some of the moves and performing with them.

We had so much fun playing group  games.

We  all took turns and followed the rules of the games.

We joined in to the whole school assembly and enjoyed watching the Olympic Athletes.

They were very interesting and we all got to have a look at their Gold Medals.

We have been practising for our concert.

The children have all been great at remebering the words and actions.

Pictures to follow!!!!

Brookmans Park School  has celebrated Cultural Arts Week

Little Gems Celebrated with the rest of the school and had lots of exciting and interesting things to do.

Nursery and Reception classes had a swap over day on Wednesday.

During Arts Cultural Week

Little Gems went into the Reception class, where they completed some sports day activities. These included hopping races, balancing quoits on their heads and skipping. The children all enjoyed racing and taking turns.

We also watched a video of the Rainbow fish story.

They then discussed the different emotions that the Rainbow fish may have been feeling during different parts of the story. They then had a go at making up a dance in their groups which showed how the fish was feeling.

Both Reception classes spent 45 minutes in the Nursery Classroom they learnt a senses song all about the seaside. They all had a go at making up their own poems and writing them out. All together we all sang the rhyming soup game and thought of lots of words that rhyme with seaside words.

We have had another fun week in Little Gems Nursery.

We have been sharing our experiences and stories about our sea-side trips.

All the children have enjoyed making sand castles and fishing for shells.

We enjoyed our ice lollies we made during our 'hot and cold' week.

What fun we had with our bubble machine,

we even shared it with Year 1 as a well done for their amazing performances in their class assembly, which we were invited to watch.

After watching their performance we went back to our class and we re enacted the

'Lighthouse Keepers' story just like we had seen them do.

We also invited Year 1 into our classroom as well

as being invited into theirs.

Together we sang and performed sea-side songs.

Thank you to Violet's Mummy for coming in and helping us serve and share ice cream experiences.

She also had fun joining in with our 'Sticky Kids' dancing and singing games.

During the week we had another trip to our school pond and we discussed the changes that occur over the year to the pond and the surroundings.

We look forward to welcoming more parents in to share some memories with children

whilst in Nursery and before they move on to Reception.

Whilst on the subject of Reception, as of next Wednesday 10th May we will begin

the new system of parents saying goodbye to the their children at the nursery gate.

They will then independently follow the routine of the morning.

We will be discussing this with the children on Monday and Tuesday and it would also be beneficial if you also explain this transition to them.

This is in preparation for Reception as the Summer term is coming to an end.

Week 2

It has been another very busy week in Little Gems Nursery

We have all missed Mrs Magdich and we all

wish her a speedy recovery!

Sadly  Mrs Magdich will not be in next week as

she is still recovering from her recent operation.

We would like to say thank you to Mrs. Andreas for

coming in and helping us out this week. Mrs Andreas helped the children choose and make a transport using different shapes.

We would like to continue to  extend our invitation to all mums and encourage you to come along and spend a morning with us in Little Gems.

A big thank you to Mrs.Summers for helping us out every Wednesday through the last term

and her continued support this term.

We have been learning all about different modes of transport this week and the children have all shared many

stories  of their different transport experiences.

The children have been colour mixing their favourite colours

this week. Next week we will continue to explore

our primary and secondary colours.

We have also had a walk around the school looking at different blossom trees. the children all suggested we make our very own

little gems  blossom tree. we picked sticks and real

blossom and then re created a tree in our classroom.

We enjoyed story time in the school woods whilst on our spring blossom walk.

This week we are all proud to say we have walked a

'MILE'

The school have decided that each class would

walk a marathon during the Summer term.

In Little Gems we have decided as we have little feet!

We would walk a mile a week to begin with and then increase this

each week to total 26 miles by the end of the Summer term.

We have already started to practice for our Sports Day

by running races whilst out walking our Mile.

Little Gems have had a go at Speed stacking cups. We have started using 3 and 8 cups and will increase next week.

On Wednesday morning's

(8am til 8.45 with Mrs.Ingram)

puzzle club has started.

Children from Nursery and Reception

enjoyed self choosing and completing puzzles.

Places are still available if you are interested

so please speak to the office.

Enjoy the pictures!

Last week we said goodbye to our Butterflies.

We enjoyed watching them grow from tiny eggs into caterpillars then watched them spin their cocoons and turn into beautiful butterflies.

We then enjoyed flying a butterfly kits around the garden.

Oh what fun we had !

Most of the children enjoyed holding the butterflies

and watching them fly off into the sky!

For our last week in the Easter term we invited Parents, Grandparents and Siblings into the nursery to take part in our Easter craft morning. They helped the children to make Easter cards, Easter rabbits, carrots, grass heads, and they also decorated Ginger bread Easter eggs. All of the children seemed to enjoy having their family members in the classroom with them. All of the children also got to try some hot cross buns.

During our Craft morning the children took part in a sponsored giant wiggle which was to raise money for 'Action for Children'. They had to make a human caterpillar and wiggle around the playground. We were delighted to see the parents also join in and take part in the wiggle. We are currently still counting the money that was raised.

We have now watched our caterpillars spin their cocoon and hopefully when we arrive back after Easter we will have some butterflies to show the children.

We hope you all have an enjoyable Easter Break and look forward to seeing you back on the 18th of April.

Many thanks again gain to all the help we received during the craft morning.

Reminders

School finishes at 11:45 am and that lunch club finishes at 1pm.

This week the nursery children have been learning all about Spring. We have spoken about the different signs of Spring that they can watch out for whilst on the way to school in the mornings. We discussed that they may see lots of baby animals such as lambs, piglets, calves and chicks around this time. Some of the children mentioned that they had seen these spring animals on their visits to Willows Farm whilst others said that they were going to Willows to see the animals this weekend.

We also spoke about how some trees may now have blossom on them. We then created our very own blossom trees which are very beautiful and now have been put onto our spring display board. Please take a look at how lovely they are.

We were very lucky this week as we had Miss Jenkins come and help us for three days. The children had really missed her and loved having her back in the classroom. We look forward to having her helping us on at our craft morning on Tuesday.

As you know on Tuesday it will be our Easter craft morning. Just to remind you that parents, grandparents and siblings are all welcome to join us. The craft morning will run for the whole morning session and will involve lots of different Easter activities.

This week the children have been very busy making all of the Mummys lots of lovely things for Mother’s Day. They planted their own flowers and created some lovely cards. We hope that all of the Mummys have a lovely day and get very spoilt.

On Friday the children came in wearing some lovely red outfits for Red Nose Day. We spoke to the children about what Red Nose day is and why we raise money for this event.

We were lucky enough to go and watch the KS2 Easter concert ‘Pirates vs Mermaids’. The nursery children sat so well and the KS2 did very well in the performance. For the parents that are going to watch this performance next week you are in for a treat.

Also just a quick thank you for attending your parent consultations.

Reminders

Parents evening consultations are taking place.

This week has been a very busy week for all of our Little Gems. We have been learning about life cycles of frogs, butterflies and chickens. The children have been able to watch our very own caterpillars grow and start to spin their cocoons. We have watched them grow from baby caterpillars to full size caterpillars. We are all very excited to see them turn into butterflies.

The children have all shown a really good understanding of the life cycle of a frog. Miss Burrett is going to try and visit a pond on the weekend and collect some frogspawn so that we may get a chance to watch the life cycle in our class. We will then of course return the baby frogs back to the pond.

We had a lovely trip to Gobions this week, where we had so many parents kindly come along and help. The children all seemed to enjoy this trip and after recapping they also seemed to have remembered many of the things that we got a chance to see.  A big thank you to the parents that came along to help, it is very much appreciated and so lovely for the children. Hopefully we will have the beautiful weather again when we go on our next trip to Paradise Wildlife Park in July.

These activities all link with the rest of the school in focusing on ‘Science week’ this week. We have also carried out other Science activities. The children have had a chance to take part in a ‘Sink or Float’ activity. The children had to estimate whether they believed that certain objects would sink or float. We would then have a go and see if their estimations were correct or not. We discussed why some objects sank and why some would float.

Our growing station is really coming along nicely outside and the children have again been spending a lot of time this week planting. Let’s hope that the weather stays nice so that we can our plants grow over the next few months.

Our next event in Nursery is our Easter Craft Morning. This will be held in Nursery Class on Tuesday the 28th of March. Parents, Grandparents, Carers and siblings are all welcome. There will be lots of different Easter activities for you to take part in with your child. We will also hopefully have time to carry out an Easter Bonnet parade.

We look forward to hopefully seeing some of you there.

Gobions trip on Wednesday 15th

This week the children have been introduced to the different species of Mini Beasts.

They have all worked really hard in remembering some of the different names. We have paid extra attention to Ladybirds, Spiders, Caterpillars, Butterflies, Worms and Dragonflies.

On Thursday morning and Tuesday afternoon the children all went on a Mini Beast hunt to the school pond and wooded area. We came across lots of Mini Beasts and even found a newt. Some of the children wanted to hold the newt and the worm. We then placed the Newt and Worm back to where we had found them.

We have also been very lucky and have now got some baby caterpillars growing in our classroom. The children will be able to watch and observe as the caterpillars grow, spin their cocoon and then turn into Butterflies. We will then release them.

Our cooking activity has also been focused on Mini Beasts and they have all had a go at decorating biscuits and turning them into ladybirds. These all looked delicious and we hope they enjoy eating them at home.

Due to some of the lovely weather this week we have spent lots of time in the outdoor environment. The children have had lots of fun playing in our sandpit.

We also went to the playground and had a go at playing “What’s the time Mr Wolf?”.  Let’s hope the lovely weather is on our side for our trip to Gobions next week.

The children have all worked really hard on our sound of the week which is “n”. We had some very imaginative objects brought in for our sound of the week table. They all had a go at writing it on a whiteboard and also had a go at some of our previous sounds.

Just a quick reminder that we will be meeting at Gobions car park on Wednesday at 9am for our trip and that pick up will be at 1pm in the car park as well, unless your child is due to stay for the afternoon session, these children will then walk back to the school with Mrs Ingram and Miss Burrett.

This week we have been learning about how plants, trees and flowers grow. We have created our very own garden centre in our nursery outdoor area. Unfortunately due to the weather the children have not had a chance to explore the garden centre as of yet. We will be planting lots of flowers in our garden centre and will look forward to watching these grow over the upcoming months. In preparation for this the children have been learning about the life cycles of beansprouts and sunflowers.

In addition to our garden centre the children have been doing their own observational drawings of daffodils to celebrate St David’s Day. These are looking beautiful and have been displayed in our classroom. Please take a look at just how good they are.

On Tuesday, the afternoon children took a walk to the wooded area within the school grounds. They had a snack there and explored the environment for plants and flowers that were growing.

For our cooking activity this week the children all had a go at tasting pancakes. This was to celebrate Pancake Day. The children were able to choose whether they wanted jam or golden syrup. We discussed why some people celebrate Pancake Day and they shared what they liked to eat on their pancakes at home.

This week we saw some lovely and very imaginative costumes for World Book Day. We spoke about what characters they had come as and what story they were from. We joined the rest of the school in the assembly and were able to have a look at some of the other classes and their costumes. You all looked fab!!!!

Again we would like to apologise for the change of date for our Gobions walk trip. This has now been rearranged for Wednesday the 15th of March.

World Book Day

This week we have welcomed the children back from half term and they

have all settled nicely back in. Our topic for this week has been

“Our growing bodies”.

We have spoken about how we grow, what helps us grow, what foods are healthy and unhealthy and the importance of keeping healthy.

The role play area has been turned into a doctor's surgery which all of the

children have enjoyed playing in this week.

We also made a mobile out of our photos which were so kindly brought in by you all. The children spoke about how they have changed through each year of their life and what they can do now that they couldn’t do when they were younger.

We also made a chart of the tallest in the class to the smallest.

The children were weighed and had their feet measured also.

For our cooking activity this week the children had a go at tasting different vegetables and fruits. They tried pomegranate seeds, baby corn, mango and kiwi. They also had a chance to use the scales, weighing out the food and seeing which  was the heaviest and lightest. Some of the children were surprised to find out that they

liked the foods they had not tried before.

The children got a chance to go to assembly on Monday and all of the teachers were so impressed to see them sit so beautifully. The children listened to Mrs Davies as she told them all about recycling and why it is so important. They were also lucky and even got to watch a short video of Peppa Pig and watched how she did her recycling. The children have all said that they will try their best to recycle when they are at home. Mrs Davies also emphasised how important it is to always put our litter into a bin and not on the ground.

We have welcomed Dotty and Georgia into Little Gems this week,

it has been so nice to see them settle in so well and just how friendly the

children have been towards them both. We are however very sad to be saying goodbye to Cruz today. We wish her lots of luck in her new home and are looking forward to her joining Brookmans Park school again in September.

Next week we will be learning about how plants and food grow. We will be creating a Garden Centre in which we will be planting our own plants, fruits and vegetables.

We also have World Book Day on the 1st of March and we are looking forward to seeing what the children dress up as for their favourite book character.

You should have also received a book token that can be

used towards purchasing a new book.

We will be sending out a parent mail in regards to a trip to Gobions on Wednesday the 8th of March. We will need as many helpers as possible.

Siblings and Grandparents are also welcome to join us.

See you next week

What a way to end half term.

We had a surprise visit from Miss Jenkins.

We all met Lullabelle her lovely baby girl.

We had fun singing songs to the baby and asking Miss Jenkins

lots of questions about her baby.

We have been busy making her baby a card and a heart gift.

We all look forward to seeing them both very soon.

We have enjoyed making clay hearts for our Mummies and Daddies as well as making hearts out of strawberries.

All the children could share this trick at home with you.

Hope you enjoy their Valentine gifts.

Our topic Light and Dark comes to an end, we have explored lots of different concepts about this, please continue to explore with your children at home.

This week we all had a go at making our very own light shows in the 'Dark room'.

Chloe Andrea kindly brought in some dates for our sound of the week.

We all had a smell, feel and taste of the dates,

some children loved them, some not so much.

Well done to all the children for trying them out.

We wish you all a happy and healthy break.

The children all made their very own

Elmer's using a rainbow of colours.

We all enjoyed making our Rainbow coloured 'Cake Pops'

We hope they tasted as lovely as they looked.

The afternoon children asked if we could put on some

Chinese music on as they wanted to have a go

Nursery joined up with Reception and we celebrated

Chinese New Year

We all had a go at tasting Chinese food, on the menu were

Vegetarian spring rolls with sweet and sour dip

Prawn Crackers

Lychees

All the children did so well at trying these different oriental foods.

Some had never tried Chinese food before and were surprised to have liked something new.

We made some Chinese crafts and we learnt all about their celebrations. This year it is the year of the Rooster. The children also learnt what animal they represent in the Chinese calendar.

We made a dragon and danced around the school as well as danced to Chinese music and had a go at dancing with ribbons which is a Chinese tradition.

Thank you to all the children who brought in an object for the

‘sound of the week’

Please ensure that it is the sounds and not the letter

for example; ‘s’ for ‘snake’ instead of ‘shoe’

Thank you to the children for bringing in books from the Author of the week.

We enjoy a range of books to read and explore together.

This week the children have been

enjoying making telescopes and re-enacting the story of

‘The Shark in the Dark and Park’

By Nick Sharrat

(The Author of the week table is in the Book corner, please place the books on this table and don’t forget to name them)

Mrs Magdich together with all the children created our very own

Rocket to take us all to the Moon on an adventure.

We all had a go at joining in with the Shuttle Run on Wednesday in aid of the charity, N.S.P.C.C.

Chinese New Year

This week we have introduced

'Sound of the Week' .

The children have been independently  practising writing the sound  'm'  on the interactive white board, on the mini white boards and in  sand. We have been looking for things in the environment that begin with 'm' as well as bringing things in from home. We have a new area where the sound of the week objects are displayed throughout the week.

We have been exploring different musical instruments and identifying high and low sounds and exploring how sound can be changed.

At circle time we have been discussing nocturnal animals

and during music and movement

we have been exploring hibernation.

In PE we have been having a go at the following

'Fitter Future'

a new online scheme.

The children watch and copy the exercises.  They all enjoyed it and followed the video with great

concentration and co-ordination.

We all went on a walk around the school exploring

ice and frost  in different forms.

When back in the classroom we investigated and

experimented with different forms of ice.

We also looked and observed our shadows and we understand how we get a shadow.

Please ask your child to share with you their nursery experiences whilst looking at the blog together.

The year six children have visited us during the week and have had some great experiences with some of the nursery children.

We would like to say a big thank you to Mrs. Melchionno and the year six children for inviting us into their class and carrying out small group presentations about what they had learnt from the Science Dome. The Nursery Children loved the experience. We plan to share more time with year six over the year.

This week we started

We will  all have a go at filling up the sand in our new sand pit.

We will all have a go at playing in our new improved water trays.

What a busy first week back we have had in

Little Gems Nursery .

Our Little Gems put on their puddle suits, wellies and were snug as a bug to go outside and enjoy

the experience of the snow falling.

We had a play on the grass and felt the snow

crunching underneath our feet.

Some even made snow angels and snow balls.

We all had a go at being astronauts on the moon

whilst in our puddle suits walking on the snow.

Ask your children all about their snow experience when in nursery?

The year 6 children came to visit the

nursery children to explore our

‘Dark Room’

We are having so much fun exploring

'Light and Dark'

The year six children even helped the nursery children put their puddle suits on, complete activities and they enjoyed  exploring our classroom.

Thank you year six for coming in to visit us.

We look forward to your next visit.

(We are in discussion about arranging for the Year 6

children to be reading partners with

Nursery !!!

More info will be coming soon).

We had so much fun when the visitor came in with the

'Science Dome'

We had two sessions in the Dome, we learnt all about our solar system, planet Earth and all the planets around us.

We visited the Moon, Mars, Venus and Uranus.

We had a blast off on a rocket and traveled to space and we explored all the stars and different

Moons in the Solar system.

We even had a look at all the different robots that fly to the moon and explore all around them.

After being in the Science Dome we practiced being rockets and counting backwards to blast off!

We were astronauts and explored and walked on the Moon!

What fun we had!

Please ask you’re your children to share their experience.

We have been having lots of fun

interacting with the white board.

We plan on having a starter activity on the

Interactive White Board

every morning right after self registration.

The children were very interested to what happened to the water in our new sand pit and explore icy water, ice blocs and then snow!

Story Tent Cancelled

Dear Parents,

I would like  to inform you that unfortunately we are going to have to cancel our 'Story Tent Visitor' for tomorrow as she has just informed me that she is unwell as she has lost her voice completely therefore unable to attend  as planned. I do realise that some of you have made arrangements so that you can attend the session but unfortunately this is an unforeseen circumstance.

All being well we can re book this Visit. This could be on Friday this week or on a day before the end of term. If we are unable to re book we will then schedule it for after the New Year.

This visit was booked as a curriculum enrichment to fit in with our 'traditional tales from around the world' topic.

Wow, what a fun and busy

Cultural Week

we have had !!

We would like to thank all the parents for coming in to share their

cultural diversities,religions and family traditions

with Little Gems Nursery.

We have all had so much fun exploring and learning about our different cultures.

We started the week with a Mum from Romania and a Dad from Cyprus.

They treated all the children to Greek Biscuits.

We danced to both culture's music, we counted to ten

and we learnt how to say hello and goodbye.

We then had in a Mum who explained  all about

Chanukah, the Jewish festival.

We played the Driedel game and we all went home with some Gelt! (gold coins).

We even  made are very own Menorahs.

We have also made our very own

Little Gems Advent Calendar

Please have a look in class for your child's number for

a lovely Surprise!

We had another Mum come in and talk about

Australia and Australian animals.

She showed the children soft toy animals and read the children a lovely

Australian animal story.

We all had fun making Koala bear masks

We also invited in one of our family's Spanish Au Pair.

She was kind enough to make Spanish omelette and a Spanish delicatessen for the children to try. The children were all so adventures to try out the new food.

Some of the children were extremely surprised

when they enjoyed

the new and different flavours.

We also counted to ten, said hello and good bye

as well as listened to a story in Spanish.

Mrs Ingram also shared with the children that she was born in Malta.

The children were keen to try out some Maltese cheese snacks.

We counted in Maltese and danced to Traditional Maltese music.

The children also made different flags from around the world of the countries and cultures we had shared during the week.

The children enjoyed looking at the map of the world and how far these countries were from England. We also discussed different languages and weather.

The children were all very keen to share where they had been on holiday.

This week we also visited Reception, we decorated our own

 Christmas Trees.

We were also very lucky to make our own Diya Lamps.
